Family & Friends
How does my family member/friend acquire an appointed attorney?
My family/friend is in jail, how will their attorney contact them?
How do I find out who is representing
my family member/friend?
I want to know what is happening with my family member/friend's case.
Court appointed attorneys are determined by the court. The court will have your family member or friend complete the documentation to establish whether they are indigent. Once the court determines their status, they may have a court appointed attorney represent them.

The appointed attorney will reach out by phone, or visit them at the detention center in person.
Your family member/friend can give you the name of their attorney if they wish to do so. Please keep in mind their attorney is only obligated to speak to their client, not friends and family members.
Public records regarding pending criminal cases can be found through the clerk's office of the county where the alleged charges took place.
